Today's zombies run was not my best.  I got a zombie chase fairly early on, which rather threw me off balance, and then the rest of the run felt more like slog than pleasure.  The mission itself finished when I was still a long way from base - partly because I'd tweaked my route to make it a full 5k including cool down, rather than repeatedly getting 4.7k or 4.8k - and though I like Radio Abel it's just not as gripping as the main missions.  Unsurprisingly my pace was slower than the previous few runs.

It can't always be good days I suppose.

Good things:
  1. I did finish even though I was feeling fed up.
  2. I did in fact evade all three zombie chases.
  3. There were only three this time.
  4. I did feel my usual post-run contented/happy mood, at least once I was clean and warm and dry again.
  5. The game continues to engage me; I find myself wishing I could run more often so I could find out what happens next more quickly (and also build more bits of my base).

The good news is that I completed my whole run at a steady pace of 7 kph, which I haven't been able to manage since I came back from a break over the summer and then picked up a really dragging cold (which I still kind of have, to be honest).

The bad news is that the annoying gym staff bod banned me from holding my phone in my hand to use Zombies, Run! in accelerometer mode. He came over and told me it's not allowed to talk on the phone while on the treadmill, and I said I wasn't talking, I was just listening to a podcast (I had brought the phone to my ear to be able to hear the story section over the gym background noise). He told me I should just put the phone on the lectern and not hold it. I explained that it was a program to help me with running, and that I had to hold it for the accelerometer to work. He clearly didn't believe me that phones could do that, and I think wanted to save face, so he told me it was still forbidden :-(

I like a lot of things about the council gym, including its cheap membership. But this isn't the first time the staff have imposed more or less arbitrary rules on me; at one point it was suddenly not allowed to run in a skirt even though I'd been doing so quite happily and safely for months. I'm glad that at least happened when I was committed enough to running to go out and buy leggings, but still, really annoying. I think in this case I'm going to have to go out and buy an old-fashioned bumbag or perhaps a small shoulder bag. Running without my zombies is way too boring to keep up.

After all that, I did 9 minutes mostly at 7 kph with one successful zombie chase at 8.4 kph near the beginning. Then about a two-minute break for arguing with the trainer, long enough that I wasn't really breathing hard by the time I started again. Then 21 minutes at a steady 7 kph, which was a grind but not unmanageable. 3.5 km total.
