Running from zombies
Nov. 12th, 2013 04:07 pmMission 2 this lunchtime (sunshine, cold air). 38 minutes, about 3.75km of running in 28 minutes, bookended by 2x 0.5km of walking.
I continue to enjoy the story and I do find music a bit more motivational whereas speech is better at distracting-from-discomfort. When I did powerwalking in 2009-10, I found that on long training sessions (10 miles+) I would prefer podcasts for the first two-thirds or so, and then as I started to get tired, my brain would gradually stop being able to process the speech and I would need to switch to music to keep me going to the end. I think the mix of speech and music I'm getting in Zombies is working well for me.
My running playlist is basically "everything that looked as though it had a decent tempo" and I have the app pick from it on shuffle. I got a very eclectic set of tracks today, which amused me.

Today I ran at a weird time and Countdown was on in the gym while I was running, and I found that solving anagrams was really quite good at distracting me from the discomfort and assuaging the boredom which can often be a problem for me when things are going well physically.
Little rewards
Date: 12/11/2013 09:58 pm (UTC)Each run causes the game to say you have picked up some items (this is part of what the robot voice was on about but I've turned off item pickup notifications now). The more running and the more items picked up, the more you can build on your own version of Abel Township - e.g. I've added some extras like a defensive ditch, and solar panels on the armory, and built the comms tower. This has raised my township's morale and defense stats!
Also, there's a whole load of badges to unlock in the "Achievements" tab when logged in at https://www.zombiesrungame.com - so far I have "And so it begins" for doing the first mission and "Apprentice zombie escapologist" for the time I tried the "zombie chases" interval training (I have since decided it is not for me at this time). There's badges for missions, distance run, time run, pace of running, and also some for milestones in the build-your-own-Abel game.
