Week N day 2a
May. 19th, 2013 07:28 pmI didn't end up running on Friday, because this time of year I'm doing a lot of practical exams which involve standing up for several hours at a stretch. It turns out that a lot of standing on my "rest" day means that I don't recover well from a run; my toes were really swollen and sore by Friday and my ankles didn't feel great either, so I decided it was probably actually a bad idea to try to run, and I wasn't just being lazy.
So I ended up repeating my day 2 run today with
jack in glorious (but not too hot) sunshine. Although J is faster than me over 5 km at this point, he's not used to running outdoors and found it difficult to keep a steady pace. So sometimes he was ahead, sometimes I was, sometimes he overdid it and had to slow down to a walk. I was doing intentional 5 mins walking / 10 mins running intervals anyway.
Having someone with me definitely encouraged me to go just that little bit faster, though I was deliberately trying not to pace
jack because I know I'm not able to do that. So I ran the first km really fast (by my standards!), only just over 7 minutes. The second and third intervals were a bit slower than that, but still decently fast for most of the distance, and I equalled my best time for intervals at 42 minutes.
