Mrs Negative And Her No-Hat
Sep. 10th, 2014 02:23 pmI dreaded this. I really did. For several reasons.
1. I was supposed to have done it yesterday after work, but couldn't for reasons of TMI and therefore feeling unwell. This included quite a bit of a back ache and, as usual, a complete lack of energy.
2. Day 2 is usually still marked by a certain lack of energy, although to a lesser degree. Today is day 2.
3. It's been two days since the last run, rather than the one day that I'm attempting to teach myself. Two days rather than one generally makes the run more difficult for me.
4. I've noticed a pattern in which the second time after I've increased the level is always way more difficult than the first time (regardless of other influences such as aforementioned TMI or the amount of rest days).
All of these things combined made it very difficult to get through todays run.
At least it's Wednesday. Here's to small comforts.
I am in the fortunate position that I am part time employed and can easily afford it. Therefore Wednesday is by far my favourite day of the week. It is the day where I can do all the housework that isn't a daily task and I can do any errands such as for example dentist apppointments and that sort of thing without having to take time off work. Most importantly, I don't have to go to work. I love Wednesdays from the bottom of my lazy little heart.
Unfortunately this also means that when a running day falls on a Tuesday, it's so very tempting to skip it and do it on Wednesday instead, it being so much more practical, even though it brings on the difficulty of item 3 on that list up there.
So, in a less long-winded way of putting it, I had next to no energy today and running was so hard.
Since my usual route is now too short, I made a new, longer one. I have now discovered that this means the first three minute run is almost entirely uphill, and fairly steep too. This is bad. No, it's worse than bad, it's Bad!
My calves: Lady, you better stop and stretch us, or we're going to cramp and then you'll be sorry!
Evil Laura: Keep going, it's important that you don't stop!
Me: Wah!
I listened to Evil Laura, though, and somehow miraculously avoided cramp. Not sure how, really... Probably it was through the distraction of the first song of the first 5 minute run. It has some rap in it, by a guy who sounds like he's trying very hard to sound like some sort of American gangster rapper, with some intersting vowel sounds as a result. 'Fall' became something along the lines of 'foorll', for example. He really tried to play part, or should I say 'poarrrt', and it was just one of those things that you can't un-hear. It was quite amusing, really. The length of the route was more suitable, so we'll stick to it from now on. I might do it the other way around next time, which would solve the uphill problem. On the other hand it wouldn mean that I won't get the boring town-y bits over with first, and I will also lose the advantage of having today's last run and the program itself end precisely at some easy to remember places, which would be useful to see if I'm doing better next time or not. Not sure what I think is the biggest disadvantage here...
All in all, not a very good run today. Very hard and unpleasant, and it's beginning to annoy me a bit that Evil Laura keeps calling the last 5 minutes walk of the program a 'warm down walk'. Surely it should be cool down! You can't warm something down any more than you can cool it up.
