Grimly plodding on
Oct. 24th, 2013 11:59 amManaged to fit in a morning run today. Absolutely gorgeous day, with completely blue sky, so I felt quite motivated. Unfortunately, the actual air temperature was a bit too cold for my lungs (even though if felt warm in direct sunlight). It was weird, my body wanted to feel good, muscles moving and blood flowing and sunshine on my skin, I even managed to get into my sustainable deep breathing rhythm about halfway through. But every time I took a deep breath of cold air, my lungs spasmed just slightly so I couldn't get quite enough oxygen to my heart and muscles.
I reminded myself that it's better to slow down than give up. Both physically, because half an hour of exercise a fraction slower is more of a workout than 20 minutes of exercise, and psychologically because if I give up I feel bad and it becomes hard to drag myself out or complete the next run. So I ran really really slowly, keeping aware of my breathing and making sure it didn't cross over from uncomfortable into actually dangerous. 3.1 km, which is slow even by the standards of a slow run, but I completed.
