Haven't managed to run for a week, first because I was away at the weekend, then because of the really awful weather earlier this week. Since I've been mostly running outside since temperatures finally climbed above low single digits, I have let my gym membership lapse, and dragging myself out of the house into the pouring rain when I knew I'd have to faff around renewing the membership before I could even get on the treadmill was just too much of an obstacle.
Since I'm going on holiday next week, and since I've already broken my streak, I was very tempted not to bother starting up the running again until I get back from travels. But this afternoon the sun came out and I decided I should make myself go out rather than leaving several weeks without any running at all.
It was a bad run, maybe I started out too fast, maybe I'm just tired, maybe it was psychological, but anyway, I was exhausted before I'd really even properly got going. I decided that rather than let myself give up, I'd switch from my planned 10 minute running intervals to alternating 5 minute intervals of walking and running. Ideally, I ought to be able to go really fast during the shorter intervals; I didn't manage that, but at least I did complete the 5 km, in a not too shabby (though not brilliant) time of just over 43 minutes.
I'm feeling a bit demotivated at the moment, I feel like I'm just repeating the same routine week after week and I can't quite push myself to improve my times. I think maybe when I get back after the break I'll try restarting the C25K programme and try to go through it again at faster speeds. I don't know if I'll be able to manage that, I suspect once the intervals get up over 5 minutes it will be hard to make myself keep going at pace. I will see if it helps to bring my speed up a bit, anyway, and it'll give me a change of routine after like 4 months of just repeating the same three workouts in rotation.
