30 mins: 3.5 km
Dec. 18th, 2013 06:00 pmThe gym decided to play really loud thumpy music this afternoon, such that I could barely hear my own music and couldn't at all hear the dialogue from the zombie transmissions. Maaaaybe I need better headphones (I've got some iPhone in-ear buds, which I think are more about looking cool with the white wires than actually being good quality), but I'm reluctant to keep spending money on fancy equipment I don't really need. And the accelerometer definitely isn't working with my phone in a bumbag, so I didn't get any zombie chases either.
So I effectively ended up just running a plain 30 minutes at 7 kph, with occasional glimpses of music I like competing with thump-thump-thump. It was too noisy for me to concentrate on my own body like I sometimes try do with plain runs when I don't have landmarks or music for some reason. I think it was easier than Monday's run.
I don't know if I should shelve the zombie app until the weather warms up again, because if it can't detect my stride I'm not getting the zombie chases and it is always somewhat difficult to hear the story when I run in the gym. Now my fitness is getting back to where it was, potentially I can go back to varying between long slow runs to build up my distance back to 5K, and intervals of running a bit faster with walking, and keep seeing if I can improve my 30 minute distance every third run. I don't know if that's enough to keep me interested, though; I think I'll give the zombies one more try on Friday and see if I can repeat this mission while actually being able to hear the storyline.
