I'm going to assign letters to the weeks after the end of the programme, just so I can keep track. My plan is: Day 1 run as far as I can in 30 minutes, day 2 alternating running and walking intervals until I get to 5 km, day 3 run slowly and try to increase my running time by 10%. I'm not sure what intervals are best to use for day 2, but I'll experiment and see what works.

So today I went out at lunchtime and ran my 30 minutes, with the confidence from the weekend that I can definitely complete that time. I pushed myself just a bit harder than on Saturday; I wasn't sure if I was getting it right, or if I was trying to go too fast and would have to give up before the end. But in fact I managed a pretty steady and sustainable pace. I was just starting to get a stitch by the end, but nothing unbearable. Like Saturday, it was damp enough to keep me on the paths, so I ran exactly the same route as before. It was quite satisfying when the Runkeeper robot voice called out my 5 minute timepoints and I could see I was further along the route than at the same time on Saturday.

Overall that was 3.9 km in 35 minutes, including the warmup. Which means that a) I was within spitting distance of what I can manage on the treadmill, even though I was running outside and having to guess at the pacing and occasionally run up small hills. And b) I got the average pace comfortably back under 9' /km, yay.

Unfortunately it started raining seriously during the final five minutes, which was fine while I was actually completing the run but made walking home a bit unpleasantly damp. I'm still glad I got out and managed some real improvement, though.
