Wow, completing the 20 minute run at the end of week 5 has been such a psychological boost! I turned up at the gym today thinking, I've done 20 minutes continuously, 5/8/5 should be easy-peasy. And whaddya know, it was. It was exertion, I was definitely breathing hard and sweating, but I got to the end thinking, hey, if this weren't so boring I could do the whole thing again.

Remembering my previous bad experience with going back to the gym after several outdoor runs, I only set the speed to 7 kph, which is not the fastest I can do. But still, that gave me a two-mile total distance for the first time, 3.2 km in 29 minutes or an average pace of 9'4'' /km. That's a little teeny bit faster than my 20 minute run overall, even though I was only running for 3/5 of the time instead of 4/5. So I think it's an all round improvement over Week 5 day 3.

And I think I've finally found that endorphin high I've been chasing for the past 2 years. Having done the workout at a pace that was hard work but not painful on my lungs, I actually feel really good, relaxed and bouncy and energized. Woo!

Aw, man, I thought it was just me who had trouble with going to the gym being so boring. All the times I went to the gym, I couldn't find any way to make it better. It's why I eventually switched to running outside but, still. I miss the thrill of seeing my exact distance.

But, go you!!!! Even if it's boring, you kept at it! Twenty minutes all together? How many people can say that?

I don't know if it helps, but I use these earphones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000W35SZW/ I originally started using them for power-walking but they generally stay in the ears ok when running too. The only thing with running I've noticed is that I have to tuck enough slack into my bumbag (where the phone is) to stop myself accidentally catching the slack cable with my arms and pulling everything out in a mess. I don't think I move my arms as wildly enthusiastically when walking.

Also it's really cool that you're finding the endorphin buzz :-)

Oh yay, I'm glad the 20-minute-running-ness has gone on being awesome!

And I think I've finally found that endorphin high I've been chasing for the past 2 years.

Oh, yay, I hope it comes back, if you can actually enjoy it that's so positive. *hugs*
