Ewwwww...

Mud. Soooo much mud! Evil Laura said to try a new route to keep things from getting boring, and I told you about that new trail around the town, right? Well, I made a new route and incorporated some of that trail and can now report back that a fair bit of it is WILDLY unsuitable, so the route will be adjusted to avoid that bit. At least at this time of year. Probably for good as there were a couple of places where running would just not be a good idea, mud or no mud.

There was a very steep Slope of Doom (thankfully not muddy) and another place where the path was very narrow under a bridge. It was a one paving stone wide bit under a railway bridge which crosses the stream and there is no railing, mysteriously. You can walk there easily, but I wouldn't feel safe running there. I did hesitate for a while before going through because I just didn't think it could be right, but I found a trail marker right on the other side telling me that it was, so... But I don't understand the lack of railing. I would have thought that would have been mandatory in such a place.

After that bit? Mud. Mud and mud and mud with mud on it. This at least should be better in dryer seasons, but I was very glad that I didn't get to that bit until after the run was finished. Let's just say that there was nothing 'brisk' about my cool down walk today! I was busy concentrating on just keeping my balance. You should see my shoes now, and that's after I got the worst of it off by shuffling my feet through some wet grass.

At least it wasn't raining, unlike last time which I didn't write about because it would have been nothing but whining.

But before all this, the rest of the route was quite good, and I think I can adjust it enough to get rid of the icky mud. There was another forest-y bit which had a good trail in it and I quite enjoyed that bit. I was actually wishing I could stop and walk there just because it was nice to be in some forest, even if it's just a narrow strip planted to shield against some of the noise from the nearby motorway.

I did 28 minutes today, so I'm now on week 8. The end is in sight! The reward is very nearly within reach! *grabby hands* Apart from the bit with the mud and the bit where I thought I might be lost and would have to turn around and go back, I quite enjoyed it today.
